one of the simlarities between this story and the anglo- saxon, is that they both shared the same warrior traditions. they both beleived in loyalness to their kingdom. they were very critical about protecting their culture and beliefs. the reason why i say that is because the anglo saxon strongly believe in the ultimate protection from of england and the invaders. in beowulf, he believed that he needed to save the danes from this evil monsteror grimlen, named grendel. grendel went around killing innocent people in the village with no remorse.
another similarity between the two, was absolute loyalty to their leaders. the anglo saxon's leader was their god, which went by the name of odin. beowulf was loyal to his king, which is also considered as a leader. his leader went by the name of Hygelac. both culture's shared loyalness to their leaders by protecting their village, and putting forth the effort to eliminate invaders.
the last thing that i feel like converts the two, is the poetry. both consist of a little bit of poetry. the anglo saxon culture strongly believes in poetry, they even have a god that represents poetry. that god went by the name of odin. beowulf dosent necessarily have king that represents poetry but, the story has a little bit of poetry content. beowulf is actually poem, but it shares some of the same morals as the anglo saxon culture.
Not only did the beowulf poem compare to the anglo saxon culture, it also compared to my heroic culture. in my culture, our leader went by the name of martin luther king. he was the great leader of all African American people. He believed in saving his people by making sure that everyone was treated equally. racism was the invader of our culture and martin luther king fought so that there wouldnt be anymore segregation between african americans and caucasions. surely, he accomplished that goal and he died while doing so. beowulf compares to that becasue he died trying to save his people as well as others. By defeating grendel, which was a cold hearted beast, that killed innocent people. so by defeating that beast, he saved the people of the village. that bought peace and to the citizens of the village. Both heroes died tring to save the people apart of their community.
Even though both eventually ended up dying, beowulf's death was the most devestating. he had a very slow and painful death. i really thought it was sad by the way that he died, but at least i know he went to heaven. seeing the most powerful warrior die the way beowulf did, could be very devastating to anyone. but, even though he was dying , he was very strong at doing that also.
while on his death bed, he kept his pride and his word. he took it to the grave. His last words were,"beheld the gold and spoke:"I thank the Wonder-King,the Ruler of All,that I could win thisfor my peoplebefore my death-day.I have tradedmy old life for the people's needs.I cannot remain.Bid my warriorsraise a splendid moundon the shore-cliffsafter my funeral firethat a remembrance shalltower high on Hronesness.Sea-farers shall afterwardcall it Beowulf's Mound when they pilot shipsfar over the ocean's mists." and then he crowned the new king. i felt that that part was the sadest of all. but it show how strong of a leader he really was. and because of that he will alway be remembered.
Not bad. Keep it up.
